Positive behaviour for learning

Murrumburrah Public School has proudly been a Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL) School for some time. We explicitly teach the values of respect, responsibility, and empathy. This year the MPS team has renewed its focus of rewarding and reinforcing positive behaviour, monitoring, and re-teaching appropriate behaviours. Consequences are based on remediation and support and develop clear, positive behaviour expectations.

PBL is both preventatives and proactive and provides a set of systems and practices to identify and teach critical social skills. Research shows that approximately 80% of students will respond positively to these structures.  The second level of the PBL continuum focusses on students who will not be successful with universals alone, and provides targeted interventions, focusing on teaching social skills or self-management skills.

PBL is informed by data and we collect all of our data in one central place.  Data informs our decisions in Learning Support meetings, teaching programs, counselor referrals, awards, and school reports. We continually strive to teach students to manage their own behaviour and become respectful, responsible life-long learners.
